I was about to start this post by saying how easy this recipe is but I realize I say that about every recipe. But it is I promise! I’ve probably made brussel sprouts in the air fryer about a dozen times now. It’s one of my favorite ways to whip them up and get them nice and crispy. Sometimes I eat them plain and sometimes I add bacon and balsamic vinegar. Maybe even a little goat cheese when I’m feeling wild and crazy. For those who are curious, the brand of air fryer I use is Farberware. I got it at Walmart but it’s also available on amazon.
If you don’t have an air fryer you can make these in the oven as well. I prep them pretty much the same way. I just roast them at 375 for 15 minutes. Then flip and roast another 10 and they come out equally delicious. The air fryer is just a lot faster.
I prep my brussel sprouts for the air fryer by cutting of the ends and splitting them in half. This saves me time during the week so I can just toss them into the air fryer when I’m ready to cook them.
To prep the fryer itself, I spray the bottom with a little avocado oil (I use Chosen Foods Avocado Oil Spray). Once I toss the sprouts in, I spray them a little more before adding my seasonings. The extra spritz of oil is totally optional. The sprouts still fry up well without it. I just feel like it gives it that little extra crispiness I like with minimal calorie addition. You can also brush with some melted ghee instead of cooking spray and it tastes amazing! As for seasonings, anything works. I’ve used a lemon pepper parmesan, Trader Joe’s 21 Seasoning Salute and just plain old salt and pepper. Whatever floats your boat.
Air fryer cooking times vary so it’s a little hard to say exactly how long to cook them. I do by just checking in on them until they look how I want. I usually start with 10 min and then I check in around the 7 minute mark. When I’m wanting them a little more crispy, I leave them in a bit longer. Some other recipes you can check out that I’ve used my air fryer for are kale chips , buffalo chicken tenders and buffalo cauliflower. I also like to put chicken wings in there after the oven to add even more crisp!
On to the recipe!
- 1 bag brussel sprouts (about 16 sprouts)
- 2 Slices bacon
- Cooking spray (I use either coconut or avocado oil)
- Balsamic Vinegar for drizzling
- Salt & Pepper to taste
- Prepare brussel sprouts but cutting the ends off and then slicing into halves
- Spray the bottom of the air fryer with a little oil and then add brussel sprouts
- Spray sprouts once more and then add seasonings
- Fry at 400 for about 7-10 minutes
- While brussel sprouts are frying, cook bacon and set aside to crumble once cooled
- Divide sprouts into 2 bowls and add crumbled bacon on top
- Drizzle with a little balsamic vinegar and toss to coat
- Dig in!
